The line goes to a person who is on doors most days, not to a dispatcher working through a form. Ten minutes usually settles whether this is a single visit, a recurring round, or work belonging to another trade entirely — and only two of those three earn us anything.

- Roughly how many openings the building has, exterior and interior.
- What the door is doing, and whether it has always done it.
- Whether any of the doors carry a rating label stamped into the leaf edge or set into the frame.
- Where in Charlotte the building is, and when it is empty enough to work in.

What makes the first call short
- A photograph of the opening, taken from far enough back to include the whole frame. Close-ups of hardware are useful second, not first.
- Some sense of how heavily the door is used. Cycles decide almost everything about the answer.
- Whether the building has ever had door work done, and by whom. Previous corrections change what is left to correct.
- Whether you are after one visit or a schedule. Both are fine and they lead to different conversations.
